On Aug. 12, 2012, Judge Jack B. Weinstein declared that poker was a game predominantly of skill and therefore not illegal under the federal Illegal Gambling Business Act (IGBA). The decision was greeted with celebration among advocates of legal poker because of the judge’s stature and because the ruling was right on point. Weinstein is a senior U.S district judge for the federal district of Eastern New York.
