In recent years, gaming manufacturers have honed in on the power of licensed entertainment brands to attract new and non-traditional players—think King Kong Cash™, STARGATE SG-1™ and DEAL OR NO DEAL™. Film and television titles have provided rich soil for cross-pollinating gaming with media properties to bring bigger and newer audiences to the slot floor.

This month's top headlines include a partnership between Bally and H5G, news hires at Reel games, AGS, IT and Gary and Platt, a successful iGaming Workshop by BMM, promotions within Konami, Tropicana Las Vegas and Empire Resorts, the creation of an Interblock Organic Island in the Hippodrome, as well as headlines from other companies in the industry.

Continuing its familiar trend of successful headlines, Bally Technologies has set a number of company records for revenues and profitability. They announced a quarterly non-GAAP EPS of 78 cents on record revenue of $246 million for the three months that ended on June 30, 2012. In other news, Incredible Technologies is celebrating recent success, from new installations, to expanding offices and new hires, IT has been nothing short of impressive.

In this month’s Latin American news, the Paraguayan Senate has approved a bill that seeks to put an end to illegal gambling, a second attack occurred on a casino in Monterrey, Mexico, the governor of Buenos Aires extended 14 bingo licenses, and the Chilean and Peruvian governments have signed an agreement of cooperation.

In this month’s European news, a backlash over advertising during the European Soccer Championship takes place in the U.K., Schleswig-Holstein could revoke licenses in Germany, e-gaming companies are granted licenses in Spain, and a match-fixing scandal hits Italian soccer.

On June 21, Bally Technologies Inc. became the first company to receive an interactive gaming supplier license from the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB). “This was a historic day in time for Bally Technologies, Nevada, and for the gaming industry,” said John Connelly, Bally’s vice president of business development.
