03/03/2004 - GTECH Corporation Software Hubs Earn Prestigious CMM Level 3 Rating

WEST GREENWICH, R.I., March 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- GTECH Holdings Corporation (NYSE:GTK) today announced that its software hubs in Austin, Texas, and Chennai, India, have earned the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) Software Capability Maturity Model (CMM) Level 3 rating for the Company's software engineering practices. Consisting of five maturity levels, SEI ratings are an indication of an organization's commitment to providing an organized and managed approach to software development.

"In a highly competitive environment, it is critical that our customers have confidence in their vendor to deliver high quality software," said GTECH President and CEO W. Bruce Turner. "Achieving a CMM Level 3 rating sets us apart from our competitors and identifies us as an organization committed to creating institutionalized processes and procedures, which, in turn, allow us to consistently provide high quality software."

GTECH earned its Level 3 designation following an independent assessment by the Software Productivity Consortium, a non-profit organization comprised of academic and government professionals specializing in systems and software process improvements. The Level 3 demonstrates that GTECH has implemented and documented a standard process for creating and maintaining software, and reflects GTECH's ability to consistently apply software engineering and management practices across its IT project portfolio.

"The demanding requirements for CMM Level 3 certification, particularly in terms of standardized and documented software engineering and project management practices, have enabled us to deliver on technology commitments more efficiently, and ultimately serve our customers better," said Mr. Turner.

Established in 1986 at Carnegie Mellon University, the SEI Capability Maturity Model assists many government agencies and private sector organizations in selecting reliable and high quality suppliers of software products and services.
