A new casino is on its way to the Bay City area. The Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, which currently owns and operates the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort in Mount Pleasant, will build the new casino outside Standish, Arenac County, about 30 miles north of Bay City. Construction on the casino, which will be 32,000 square feet and bring more than 300 jobs to the area, should be complete by the end of the year. It will house 700 slot machines and 40 electronic table games.
In Battle Creek, a casino that has been in the works since 1999 will finally break ground, possibly as soon as August. The Firekeepers Casino will be run by the Nottaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi. Grand opening for the 2,000+ game property is slated for 2008. Full House Resorts of Las Vegas is assisting with the project.
Four Winds Casino Resort will open August 2 in New Buffalo, and is poised to become a leading gaming resort serving the Chicago, Indiana and Michigan markets. It will be the only land-based casino within 150 miles of the southwest Michigan area. The property will offer 130,000 square feet of gaming, including 3,000 slot machines and 100 table games. The slot machines will include progressive slots linked with other tribal casinos around the country. It will also feature six restaurants, including two gourmet restaurants: Swimm, a seafood restaurant, and The Copper Rock Steakhouse. Entertainment bars and retail venues will round out the property, making the 165-room suite hotel a destination resort for Midwest tourism. The casino is expected to attract upwards of 12,000 customers per day. Owned by the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians, Four Winds Casino Resort is managed by Lakes Entertainment Inc.
