AGEM

What happens when you get a group of gaming manufacturers together, many of whom compete against each other for business every day?

Great accomplishments!

This group of frequent rivals, the Association of Gaming Equipment Manufacturers (AGEM), has become a united team when it comes to issues that impact its businesses and the gaming industry.

Although AGEM’s monthly meetings are often characterized by professional ribbing about lawsuits, missed quarterly earnings and product mishaps, the 28-member organization is more united and powerful than it has ever been since its inception in 2001.

Today, the organization is comprised of diverse companies that provide gaming machines, systems and components to the gaming industry. The founding companies were primarily slot, table and casino management systems companies that all offered similar product lines and targeted the same customer base.

“Even though we all competed against each other in business, we knew it was important that we all come together to represent the industry’s best interests at a time when the gaming industry was growing dramatically,” AGEM President Brooke Dunn said. “We needed a vehicle in which to approach the industry as one collective voice on certain matters involving trade shows, regulatory issues and gaming expansion.”

The small group of founding companies included IGT, Shuffle Master, Bally, WMS and Mikohn. AGEM’s first president was Bob McMonigle, who is now a consultant for Aristocrat Technologies.

The founding members elected officers; developed an organizational structure, vision, goals and objectives; and then set out to recruit additional members.

“AGEM has come a long way, and I’m proud of what we have achieved,” AGEM Vice President Orrin Edidin said. “As gaming suppliers in a highly regulated, highly scrutinized industry, more often than not, we agree on most issues that impact our companies. AGEM is a very effective vehicle that allows us to speak with one voice on issues that affect us all.”

Philanthropy
One of AGEM’s first initiatives was philanthropic activities, which continue today. The group provides financial support to a number of responsible gaming organizations, including the National Council on Problem Gaming, the Nevada Council on Problem Gaming, and the Problem Gambling Center, and encourages its members to support the cause through their own companies.

AGEM also works closely with the American Gaming Association (AGA) and helps promote the AGA’s education and advocacy programs, which include responsible gaming programs.

In addition to supporting responsible gaming and other industry-embraced initiatives, AGEM and its members have helped numerous charitable and non-profit organizations, including The Boys and Girls Club and United Way.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, AGEM made a major donation to the Salvation Army and American Red Cross. “Many of our members had employees living and working in the Gulf Coast region who were affected by this catastrophic event, and our customers (the gaming operators) certainly had a large presence as well,” AGEM Executive Director Jack Bulavsky said. “We determined that the Red Cross and Salvation Army were the two organizations best able to direct our generous donation to the right areas.”

Trade Show Direction
In addition to its philanthropic involvement, AGEM determined early on that it was important to provide support to trade shows that best served its members’ interests. AGEM forged a relationship with Reed Exhibitions, the organizer of the Global Gaming Expo (G2E) and the world’s leading provider of trade and consumer events.

AGEM participates in the G2E conference advisory board and is also an exhibitor each year at the show. AGEM and its member companies help drive the strategic direction of the show and its agenda, and play a key role in developing conference content, in addition to individual participation as exhibitors, sponsors and conference speakers.

“AGEM member companies have an enormous impact on the success of G2E each year,” Courtney Muller, group vice president of G2E, said. “The members of AGEM are the largest and most influential gaming equipment manufacturers in the world, and the products they debut each year at G2E are the heart and soul of our show floor. We greatly value their feedback in helping shape and evolve G2E each year.”

Because of AGEM’s influence and extensive participation in G2E, its member companies receive discounted exhibit space and free parking passes for the conference.

“We’re very involved in G2E and G2E Asia because they have become the two premier gaming shows in the world, but we also support a number of other gaming shows and conferences,” Bulavsky said. “Our membership typically has the largest presence at these shows, and we work together to ensure that we are represented well.”

Legislation and Regulation
Along with driving trade show direction and participation, AGEM frequently comes together on issues related to gaming legislation, gaming expansion into new jurisdictions and regulatory matters. The group addresses these issues at its monthly meetings and, when needed, will join together to promote the industry’s best interests or to affect change.

Several years ago AGEM collectively approached the Mississippi Gaming Commission to address the product approval process. AGEM, working in tandem with the gaming commission, was successful in improving the speed of product approvals in that jurisdiction.

“As a result of our efforts, Mississippi made some very positive changes in the product-approval process,” said Walt Stowe, chair of AGEM’s governmental affairs committee and a past AGEM president.

The organization also works to foster strong relationships with lawmakers. In 2005 and 2007, AGEM sponsored a reception for Nevada legislators in the state’s capital, Carson City, to provide AGEM members an opportunity to meet lawmakers and discuss concerns that affect gaming equipment manufacturers.

“Over two-thirds of the legislators and the governor attended our 2007 reception, which gave the legislators a chance to see what gaming manufacturing is all about and hear firsthand about the issues that impact our businesses,” Stowe said.

Educational Programs
Recently, AGEM has become active in supporting educational programs that promote gaming manufacturing as a career. Earlier this year AGEM made a contribution supporting the College of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas, which offers an Associate of Applied Science degree in electronic engineering with a slot repair emphasis.

The organization is also considering support for Atlantic Cape Community College’s Casino Career Institute in downtown Atlantic City, which offers a slot technician program that trains students on subjects such as money validation, applications of electricity and slot mechanical operations.

“We are thrilled to champion and help implement and evolve educational programs that prepare people for careers in the gaming manufacturing and casino operations fields,” Edidin said. “We want to help these institutions further define their programs and upgrade their classes — it really is a win-win-win for AGEM members, gaming operators and, most of all, students.”

Expanding Membership
As AGEM continues to evolve, one of its goals is to increase its membership roster to include more companies outside North America.

“When we started, we were a very Nevada-centric organization because most of the large gaming manufacturers were based there,” Edidin said. “As gaming has expanded from coast to coast, so has AGEM’s membership. We have taken an active role in all current and prospective gaming jurisdictions, and I’m very proud of how AGEM has broadened its scope.”

With the proliferation of gaming in Macau and growth in the emerging markets of Asia-Pacific, Europe and South Africa, AGEM is more committed than ever to broaden its membership to include gaming manufacturers and equipment providers across the globe.
“We want to continue playing a leading role in promoting the gaming industry and the interests of gaming manufacturers, which means it is essential that we expand AGEM’s reach outside the United States while also building our domestic membership base,” Dunn said.

The organization encourages gaming manufacturers of every size to invest in AGEM membership. “For a relatively modest cost, AGEM membership provides gaming manufacturers and suppliers with access to a diversity of companies, active in all gaming jurisdictions, and a way to network, learn from and leverage the relationships of the world’s most successful gaming equipment manufacturers,” Edidin said.

G2E Product Overview
TournaMaster
Spielo, A GTECH Company, is proud to present its linked slot tournament offering, TournaMaster™, at G2E 2007. Gaming floor managers will have the opportunity to see for themselves the benefits of Spielo’s slot tournament solution which is designed to provide maximum player excitement while maintaining top revenue performance. By linking just about any bank of Spielo gaming machines together, TournaMaster gives properties the ability to quickly conduct slot tournaments that are controlled from a single, easy-to-use console. Highly visible overhead signage with large LCD monitors combined with dual second screens showcase the excitement as players compete.

At the tournament’s conclusion, the entire bank of machines can be switched back to revenue-generating live game play in only a few seconds. The tournament software resides conveniently along each machine’s main game. Properties can choose which main game they prefer from Spielo’s extensive game library. The main game can also be converted should the property wish to reconfigure its floor by theme, denomination, etc. This flexibility allows casinos to offer slot tournament excitement without sacrificing revenue due to extensive down-time or being stuck with poor performing titles after a tournament’s conclusion.

Fortune Frenzy™
Spielo will feature its exciting new multi-level linked random progressive jackpot game, Fortune Frenzy™. This new slot game pays players simply for playing. Second screen monitors and overhead LCD signage provide vivid animations as high fidelity audio joins in, creating exciting win celebrations.

Exclusive to Spielo is its “moving sound” feature. When a jackpot strikes, pre-celebration sound “moves” along the bank from machine to machine, putting players directly in the middle of a swarm of activity. Fortune Frenzy is a straight-sale progressive solution available in a range of configurations, progressive meter options and easily converted main game titles, meaning operators are not tied to expensive licensing agreements or the shelf life of main game-titles.

The DOG™

The Artlist Collection’s THE DOG™ is a licensed brand and available worldwide (excluding Asia) for all lottery channels, exclusively from GTECH. Spielo will develop several games under this license, each connected by the outstanding content built into the brand, yet each game having its own unique personality. Three of these games will be featured at G2E including Paw Prints, Pick of the Litter and Best in Show.

THE DOG is a licensing phenomenon that is currently sweeping North America. The brand is quickly becoming ubiquitous in the marketplace and can be found on playing cards, watches, plush toys, greeting cards and even on a themed Monopoly™ board game.
Games under THE DOG brand will be offered for straight-sale to the marketplace. Affordable and highly-popular licensed games are important to the industry, as they allow properties to provide players with exciting new choices in a cost-effective manner. Spielo is pleased to be taking this approach with these new games.

Indiana Jones™ PureDepth™ Video Slots
PureDepth™ display technology creates a 3-D representation of the video reels, and the game’s engaging bonus rounds take full advantage of that technology. Wheel wins are multiplied by a bonus multiplier, which leads to more exciting pays. The game is housed in IGT’s new reel AVP cabinet, with a wheel and multiplier.

Stars Wars™ Multi-Level Progressive Video Slots
This game is a banked concept that features the AVP™ Widescreen Upright cabinet with a 32-inch portrait monitor in the top-box. The game’s first version, Jabba’s Palace, has a Group Play Bonus with a four-level competitive progressive. Players play for bonus eligibility, where their rate of play determines how many “entries” they have in the bonus. One player is awarded the progressive through random selection of one of the entries. The more entries, the better the player’s chance to win. The bonus is graphically played out as a speeder bike chase with lots of action. The bonus is regularly scheduled, with countdowns to drive play.

eBay Video Slots
This game is also a banked concept with five player stations and features IGT’s new AVP™ Widescreen Slant Top machine cabinet. It has a Group Play Bonus that lets players participate in a free spins bonus that happens on giant overhead LCD displays. Player eligibility is determined by his or her rate of play. Bonus wins are multiplied for each player, based on the average wager. The more that is wagered, the bigger the multiplier.

G2E 2007 Theme: Innovation in a Legacy World

G2E Product Overview
PlayerVision™
Think of it as getting a basic cable TV package for your slot machine. The core suite of software applications gives you the ability to drive new media directly into the game interface and communicate with your player in ways never before available.
•    PlayerVision TV (PV-TV) allows your players to view their favorite shows or watch a race or sporting event while playing their favorite video slot machine.
•    AdVision allows you to communicate with your player to optimize revenue across your enterprise or turn machine downtime into advertising revenue for your venue.
•    NumberVision allows you to access add-on numbers games such as the wildly popular NevadaNumbers. In many cases this application alone can create a higher ROI for your legacy machines.

Increase time on device, player satisfaction and percentage of wallet. Positive ROI is what it is all about. PlayerVision – the game is on!

WagerVision™
A premium add-on to the PlayerVision Line-up. Imagine a player walking through your casino during March Madness. As he walks by the banks of slot machines he notices an advertisement flashing on AdVision saying: “Place your NCAA Wager HERE!” He stops, puts $100 in the game, wagers the intended $50 on the NCAA game of his choice, keeps the $50 balance in the machine, and plays a little Video Poker while watching the game. When he has played out the balance the PV-TV shuts off, and he decides to put in another $100 to play more Video Poker and watch the game. When the game ends he cashes out, pausing only to buy a NevadaNumbers ticket. This is the power of WagerVision.

You have a very satisfied customer who has wagered three times what he would have without the power of PlayerVision with WagerVision. Watch, Wager, optimize the player experience and your ROI at the same time. PlayerVision – the game is on!

BonusVision™ (NEW FOR G2E 2007!)
The newest premium add-on to the PlayerVision Line-up.
Bonusing is a powerful tool in the world of gaming. Sophisticated and experienced clientele expect more from their favorite casino to earn their regular business. To optimize those bonusing meters and create a more satisfying player experience, what if you could drive bonusing directly to the player interface and create celebration modes that went across the entire gaming floor, directly to the player’s primary focus? What if you could deliver that kind of excitement to legacy games utilizing existing distribution tools and controllers? This is the power of BonusVision.

Creating a more exciting experience for the player — enticing greater loyalty to bonusing features — increasing participation in tracked play. PlayerVision — the game is on!

G2E Product Overview

i-Deal™
As the third generation single deck specialty shuffler, the i-Deal™ incorporates cutting-edge card recognition technology that reads the rank and suit of each card being shuffled to dramatically increase table game security, a vital element on today’s popular specialty table games that feature high odds and jackpot payouts. Featuring a low profile design with flush mount load and unload ports, a programmable multi-game function and the ability to deliver groups of cards rapidly, this revolutionary shuffler increases table profitability, game speed and security, and delivers a non-trackable, completely random shuffle 100 percent of the time.

Rapid Craps™
By combining a traditional Craps table and the excitement of players throwing dice with up to 20 touchscreen player terminals, Rapid Craps™ is a revolutionary new way to deliver this popular table game. And, by automating many of the game’s elements that make a traditional Craps table labor intensive and costly to operate, Rapid Craps is sure to become an important electronic table game platform in busy pits worldwide.

High Five Poker™
High Five Poker™ features head-to-head play against the dealer and an optional Trips bonus bet that pays if a player has a Three-of-a-Kind or better, even if he folds. High Five is played with a standard 52 card deck and one Joker. The Joker is “semi-wild” and can be used as an Ace or can be used to complete a Straight, Flush, Straight Flush or Royal Flush. To begin, a player makes the Ante bet and the optional Trips bet. The dealer then deals seven cards to each player to make his best five card hand. Once a player sees his cards, he has a choice: fold or stay in the game by making a Play bet equal to his Ante bet. If a player chooses to fold, his Ante loses. If he made the Trips bet, it also loses unless he has a Three-of-a-Kind or higher. The dealer then reveals his cards and announces his best five-card hand.  If the dealer qualifies with a pair of sixes or better, and if a player’s hand wins, his Ante and Play bets win 1 to 1.  If a player’s hand loses, his Ante and Play bets lose. If the dealer does not qualify, a player’s Play bet pushes and his Ante wins 1 to 1. If a player has a Straight or higher, the dealer automatically qualifies.
