First Field Inspection of Gaming Devices in S. America
History was made when Gaming Laboratories International, GLI South America and the Instituto de Ayuda Financiera a la Acción Social (IAFAS) successfully completed the first-ever field inspection of electronic gaming devices in South America. The inspection covered more than 1,500 slot machines and electronic roulette games in casinos in Chajarí, Paraná and Victoria in Argentina’s Entre Ríos province. With the inspection, the IAFAS became the first gaming regulatory entity in South America to perform a direct control on site of this nature. GLI also became the world’s first test lab to conduct or assist in such an inspection in the region. The inspection duties were established through an agreement executed last year by the Directory of the IAFAS and the Laboratorio de Investigación en Nuevas Tecnologías Informáticas (LINTI) de la Universidad Nacional de La Plata, the branch of GLI in South America. This agreement was sanctioned by the governor of Entre Rios, Sergio Daniel Urribarri. GLI South America Director Javier Díaz said: “This is an incredible step forward for GLI, IAFAS, Argentina and the entire region. We are honored with the trust that IAFAS has shown for GLI, and we are very pleased with the way our teams worked together to reach this milestone.” Regulators will use technical information gathered in the inspection process to further establish technical standards for gaming devices, helping to modernize the gaming industry in the region, implement policies, guarantee industry integrity and assist in tax collection. The expansion will allow the lab to serve more customers and to continue to deliver world-class customer service. GLI Italy Technical Manager Rocco Ramos said, “We have seen a significant increase in the number of testing submissions we are receiving because of a recent clarification of the Comma 6A game and protocol requirements and the changes to the certification process by AAMS.” GLI Italia has also seen an increase in submissions for international jurisdictions. The company has focused on training engineers to work in both the domestic Italian market as well as being able to test for international standards such as GLI – 11, 12, 13, and 22. “The increase in activity, with more manufacturers submitting more games for more jurisdictions, provides us with great confidence in the ongoing success of GLI Italy,” said Phil Barow, managing director of GLI Italy.
