CasinoFest 3 is fast approaching and what better way to reign in spring 2007 than to network and learn side-by-side with industry legends and gaming gurus?

Continuing professional development relies heavily on a willingness to hit the books and study once in a while. Since more and more people acquire undergraduate- and graduate-level degrees than ever before, it has never been more vital for gaming professionals to maintain a strong competitive advantage.

CasinoFest 1 and 2 brought together more than 200 attendees from around the globe to learn, discuss, collaborate, and inspire one another. With a lineup consisting of slot operations, gaming law, table games management, casino marketing, and now, systems and technology, CasinoFest 3 is projected to host even more gaming professionals and, as always, promises to deliver content relevant to you and your job.

To that end, Training Magazine (Dec. 30, 2006), an educational journal for upwardly mobile businesspeople, shares 15 personal attributes one needs to succeed in the job market, and mirrors the skill sets important to the gaming industry.

Carefulness
Planning carefully helps garner steady workflow and eliminates error. Everyone knows eliminating error in the casino is integral to a fully functioning environment. The CasinoFest platforms are a great way to ready yourself and your team members for successful future endeavors.

Cooperation
Knowing how to work with others toward a common goal is essential in the workplace and it allows for a friendlier atmosphere. Networking with peers at CasinoFest is another way to form friendly alliances that allow you to strategize democratically and efficiently.

Creativity
No matter if it’s in the pit or behind the scenes in security and surveillance, having fresh ideas and a willingness to share them is an important daily job function. Many CasinoFest speakers, such as John Wilson, implement creative ways to teach others about difficult subject matters.

Discipline
Gaming professionals certainly know how important discipline is to their careers, and many CasinoFest tracks will address this career-driven attribute.

Drive

CasinoFest participants already invoke a driven spirit by attending these career-enhancing workshops.

Good Attitude
Nobody likes a lemon. In fact, employees are more likely to steal when managers or other employees seem threatening or counterproductive.

Goodwill
Don’t think colleagues are out to get your job; if you believe others are as well intentioned as you are, show them.

Influence
Speak your mind and become a leader. CasinoFest speakers are a great example of gaming professionals who hold a strong belief that good leadership involves positive influence.

Optimism

Stay positive, even on Saturdays when you’re stuck walking the floor or manning a craps table.

Order
Staying organized will reveal your personality as a promoter of organization and preventer of unnecessary distractions.

Safe Work Behaviors

Don’t throw a fit every time a kiosk locks up. Keeping a cool head makes others feel safe and secure.

Savvy
Get to know your colleagues. Observe their motives and behaviors to better guide your own motives and actions. CasinoFest tracks allow you to network among your peers and will allow you to implement the behaviors and motivations that will get you on the right track.

Sociability

Take a coffee break with your colleagues and ask them what they did over the weekend. This extroverted behavior will create a genial work environment and will let people know you care about their individual personalities.

Stability
Don’t lose your cool in a tough situation. Take some deep breathes and remember: If you freak out, it gives everyone else the freedom to freak out right along with you.

Vigor

Stay on task.

Begin practicing these excellent behavioral techniques in the workplace today, and be sure to sign up to learn more great tips at CasinoFest 3. Mark the calendar and save the date—Minnesota is waiting: May 14-16, Mystic Lake Casino, Prior Lake, Minn.
